Welcome everyone to the very first ProKarma eMarketing Blog. As your host, I will dazzle you with mind-blowing online statistics, keep you up-to-date on innovative new Web technology, entertain you with my certain twisted sense of humor and respond to your every question each week. If you ever owned a Sea Monkey, a Boba Fett action figure or can quote anything from Star Trek, you’re in the right place. First, here’s a bit of background about your host. As a young child I always dreamed of being a Director of Marketing, actually I wanted to be Luke Skywalker, but this is not a bad second choice.
I grew up in a tiny town in the mountains, Marble Colorado. When I lived there in the mid to late 70’s it had a year-round population of 28 people. Needless to say living in the middle of nowhere (see image) without television (or people) had a profound impact on my creative nature and direction in life. Many stories here – I will share in later blogs.
As a CSU alum, I am routinely tortured every fall with what they call football. It has been rough lately but there's always next year.
Since college I have worked in a variety of industries including – adult (just kidding), cable, financial services, education, consumer electronics, e-commerce, and IT services, with roles ranging from Web Designer, IT Manager to Business Development.
What does this have to do with eMarketing? Not much.
Except to know that in one way or another I have been involved with the web and the monetization of online efforts since the early 90’s. No, I did not invent the internet, that was Al Gore.
But I have been around the web world for a long time. From the great “frames vs pages” debate, blinking logos on fire, crappy little music that plays on page load, text as images (yes I did that – not a proud moment), bad navigation, even worse usability to Google ruling the world with their “relevancy score,” affiliate marketing boom, SEO, SEM, Social Media buzz and Augmented Reality.
That’s me in a nuts [filtered word]. If you would like to comment on my freakish childhood, or swap College Football stories feel free. Oh, and eMarketing comments are welcome as well.
